Ingredients
- 5 cups flour
- 5 tsp salt
- 2 envelopes of yeast
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 3 potatoes, mashed well
- Enough water to knead into dough
- Lots of oil for deep frying
Instructions
- Sift flour into bowl
- Add salt and sugar
- Bloom yeast according to directions
- Add mashed potatoes and yeast to flour mixture
- Mix together in bowl, add water as needed to make dough sitcky but not too mushy
- Upend bowl onto floured surface and knead dough until uniform
- Coat bowl with a thin layer of oil and return flour to it
- Let rise, covered, for over an hour or until dough doubles in size
- Deep fry in oil at 375 degrees in strips or balls, until golden brown
- Drain on paper towels
- Serve as is or with powdered sugar. Better when served hot. Can be reheated in the microwave.
