Living creatures

One idea is to have basic races and have a bunch of sub-races based on location. This presents a problem with humans, so maybe we'll just leave them out. Entirely. (Hey baby, want to kill all humans?) Additionally, only a subset of races are playable. Some of those are "elite" and require a quest or some amount of time in game with a basic character before they can be unlocked.

They could interbreed with just about anything, and they had a god named Bruce. Bruce was an asshole, and encouraged his followers to also be assholes, so the other gods ganged up on him and killed all the "pure" humans. There's a legend that Bruce was allowed to shelter one colony of humans (off on some island, somewhere, and everything on that island is lethal, except maybe some of the sheep), but none have been seen in ages.

Racial prejudices

The things listed below are to be used as guidelines for how NPCs react to certain races:

  • Some races are "Evil": Half-orcs, half-ogres, half-chromatic dragons, half-demons, ogres, orcs, lizardfolk, evil giant types, liches, vampires, weres.
    • This does not apply within their own race, though it might apply across to other "evil" races: Orcs mistrust half-demons, for instance.
    • Heck, even half-demons mistrust other half-demons.
  • Pixies and Fairies are "flighty". Even the ones without wings.
  • Small races are patronized by larger ones
  • Weres and Vampires are infected. Might be treated as contagious
  • Ghosts can't be seen except by clerics with the right skills
  • Mechanoids might also be considered infected
  • Golems are treated as machines
  • Satyrs and Nymphs are "interesting"
  • Dwarves like beer
  • Elves like trees
  • Humans liked ~everything~ *eyebrow waggle*
  • Half-elves are "lucky"

Specific interactions to consider:

  • Who likes each other? Who doesn't?
  • What kind of bonuses does this give them? Combat?

Interbreeding

  • Humans and anything close to their size Thus all the half-things.
  • Half-gnomes? Half-halflings? Half-giants? What's too small or too large?
  • Are all these playable?
  • Dragons, Angels, Demons breed with any standard race and modify that.
  • Not really dealt with for non-sapient NPCs

Racial traits

Descriptive fields vary by race for sentient races.

Some may not be discernible to other races, though. Different groups have different secondary/tertiary sex characteristics, for example. Need a group tree/wheel/grid to show how closely related each is. The further away from each other, the harder it is for the different races to recognize traits of each other.
