The Sapphire is a veesel with a clouded history. Designed and built as an specialized advanced scouting veesel, and originally named The Pegasus by the Star Mech Consortium, the Sapphire was later found by Jaeger Tanlan amongst the asteroids of Endomar. The mysterious death of the crew remained unsolved until Gerd, Kealem, and Kamir uncovered some documents from the former crew as well as a strange red crystal. The new crew soon found that the crystal had some strange power to slowly push those near it to paranoia, fear, and violent aggression. Under the influence of the Esken Insanity Crystal, the previous crew had apparently turned on each other in fits of madness, and the Pegasus was silent for nearly thirty years. Jaeger Tanlan named this derelict the Sapphire and manned its helm for around seven years. Within this time Jaeger fell into debt with a loanshark by the name of Cyrum. When Jaeger died at the hands of the Crimson Dragon Corsairs, the ship and its debt were transfered to Jaeger's son, who had never known his father. When the new crew first came aboard, they found that many of the ships systems had been scrapped or salvaged, apparently due to the fact that the main computer system and its peripherals had been bypassed because the computer would not allow access from unauthorized personnel. On board the new crew also found a number of alien artifacts; 3 psionic crystals and a number of devices that appeared to be scanners. The Captain's room was found to be locked and it appeared that the previous crew had tried to use laser torches to cut the door open, but were unsuccessful due to the fact that the bulkheads and walls were very thick in this portion of the ship. After determining that nothing short of explosives would open the door, the new crew decided that they should leave it alone. Later the crew found out that the old captain, the famous Rick Steele, is still sealed in his quaters... as they watch movies he starred in no more than 10 meters away.
