Mexican Chocolate Spice Cookies

Sweet and chocolatey with a little bite. My mother got the recipe from Laura Cole, a friend of hers, and now I have it too.
Easy to make and somewhat unusual. My kind of recipe!
Mexican Chocolate Cookies
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups flour
- 3/4 cups cocoa
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- generous pinch of pepper
- generous pinch of cayenne
- 3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 1/2 sticks ( 12 tablespoons) butter
- 1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 egg
Directions
- Cream butter and sugar. Add egg and vanilla.
- Mix dry ingredients together and mix them into the wet ones. Beat until just mixed.
- Lightly flour board or counter and shape dough into a cylinder about 2 or 3 inches wide. Wrap in wax paper and freeze until firm.
- Cut into 1/4 inch slices. Place slices on an ungreased cookie sheet 2 inches apart.
- Bake 10 minutes in a 375° oven. Cool briefly on pan.
